Green Card Replacement

asdsaadGreen Cards are valid for ten (10) years, this means that Permanent Residents are required to renew them if the card is either expired or will expire within the next 6 months. However, you may replace your Green Card at any given time, e.g.; In case your Green Card was stolen, lost, damaged, or if any of the information needs to be changed.

asdsaadThe average processing time to replace a lost or stolen green card is 6-9.5 months, as of November 11, 2020. (Processing times change regularly. For the latest wait-time estimate, please visit the USCIS website.)

I-551 Stamp for Lost Green Cards

asdsaadUSCIS may issue a temporary Form I-551 for permanent residents who have a lost, stolen, or destroyed green card. Generally, this is a stamp that gets placed inside your foreign passport. An example is displayed to the right.

To apply for I-551 stamp you must first file I-90 and have the receipt number and schedule an appointment with USCIS for the local field office

You need to Appear at your local USCIS office for the scheduled appointment. Be sure to take the following items to the appointment:

  • Valid, unexpired passport
  • Info Pass appointment notice (if applicable)
  • Form I-797 Notice of Action (I-90 receipt letter)
  • Copy of lost card (if available)

If your request is urgent, take additional documents as evidence of your need for the I-551 stamp (ADIT stamp).

Green Card Lottery

The annual Diversity Visa Lottery also known as the Green Card Lottery is a US government program that makes 55,000 Permanent Resident cards available every year to persons from “underrepresented countries,” which have been less represented in employment and family-based preference categories in the United States of America and who meet two basic eligibility requirements. The Program makes Permanent Resident Cards available to the winners, authorizing the winners and their families to live, study and work in the United States of America as permanent residents. The Green Card Lottery program is the United States congressionally mandated program for receiving the United States Permanent Resident Card, also popularly known as a USA Green Card, due to the green color of the Permanent Resident Card.

Applications for the USA Green Card Lottery are accepted online only.  The lottery is computer generated and randomly selects the winners for the DV (Diversity Visa) using the Application Entry System (AES) that enables entrants to electronically validate and submit entry data for the applicant and derivate relatives. Registration of Dv Lottery Will Begin During the Last Months of the Year, and the Participating Time Will Last for 30 Days Only.
